This bill amends the education law to require the New York State Commissioner of Education, in consultation with any appropriate agency, to establish a September 11th awareness curriculum or instruction for school districts regarding the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States and their ongoing repercussions. The content of the curriculum or instruction must be age-appropriate and cover core tenets and themes, including the antecedents of 9/11, the events of the day and their global impact, the response by first responders and other agencies, examples of heroism and resilience, the global response to terrorism, and the ongoing health crisis and social impacts resulting from 9/11. The curriculum or instruction must use age-appropriate, factually accurate educational resources from reputable sources such as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
