This bill, the Suicide Prevention Assistance Act, aims to amend the Public Health Service Act to establish a grant program that provides self-harm and suicide prevention services in primary care offices. The bill authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to primary care offices to hire clinical social workers who will screen patients for self-harm and suicide, provide short-term prevention services, and refer patients to long-term care facilities as needed. The bill sets a maximum of 10 grants, with no more than one grant per primary care office or state. Grant terms are up to $500,000 for a 2-year period and may be renewable. Primary care offices must submit quarterly reports on the use of grant funds, and the Secretary is required to submit biennial reports to Congress and relevant government agencies on the grant program's evaluation and implementation.
