This bill establishes the ninth grade success grant program, which aims to provide funding for the creation of ninth grade success teams in eligible public schools. The teams will identify and support incoming high school students who are at risk of not graduating. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) will administer the grant program, prioritizing schools with low ninth-grade on-track scores and below-average graduation rates. Grant funds can be used for costs associated with establishing and operating the ninth grade success team program, such as providing additional compensation or stipends for team members, related professional development, and student supports. OSPI must report annually on the implementation of the grant program, including the number of grants awarded, demographics of the students served, data on ninth-grade on-track scores and graduation rates, and recommendations for improvement.
