This bill proposes to require owners and operators of food service establishments to designate employees to complete a food allergen training program and to post signage regarding food allergens. Specifically, it defines "major food allergens" as milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, sesame, and soybeans, and requires food service establishments to have designated "food safety officers" who must complete a food allergen training program. The bill also mandates that food service establishments post signage listing major food allergens, the number of food safety officers on the premises, instructions for customers to inform staff of food allergies, and information on symptoms and actions to take in the event of an allergic reaction. The bill would take effect on July 1, 2024.
