This bill, the School Leadership Engagement Act, aims to promote a deeper understanding and connection between school administrators, such as superintendents, principals, and other supervisory personnel, and the schools and educational processes they oversee. The bill requires these administrators to spend a minimum of 15% of their work time during the school year participating in school engagement activities, such as teaching, interacting with students and staff, observing classes, and overseeing extracurricular events. The administrators must report on their experiences, including any challenges, positive outcomes, and policy recommendations, which will be submitted to the State Department of Education and the state legislature. The Commissioner of Education can take remedial action against schools that fail to comply with the act. The bill also requires school districts and private/parochial schools to adopt policies implementing the act, and the State Board of Education can establish rules and regulations to carry it out. The act is set to terminate on August 1, 2029.
