This bill amends the crime of aggravated assault. It modifies the definition of aggravated assault to include intentionally or knowingly impeding the breathing or circulation of blood of another individual using unlawful force or violence, even if it does not result in loss of consciousness. The bill also increases the penalties for aggravated assault that results in serious bodily injury or loss of consciousness, and for aggravated assault that targets a law enforcement officer and results in serious bodily injury. The bill takes effect on May 1, 2024.
