This bill prohibits incarcerated individuals who are serving a sentence for first-degree or second-degree murder from earning diminution credits to reduce their term of confinement. It also limits the amount of diminution credits that can be earned by incarcerated individuals serving a sentence for a crime of violence to no more than 10% of their aggregate sentence. Additionally, the bill prohibits incarcerated individuals who are serving a sentence for first-degree or second-degree murder or a crime of violence from being allowed deductions from their term of confinement for any period of presentence or postsentence confinement in a local correctional facility. The bill applies prospectively and does not affect offenses committed before its effective date of October 1, 2024.
