This bill amends the duties of industrial insurance self-insured employers and third-party administrators in Washington state. It clarifies that the duty of good faith and fair dealing applies to all self-insured employers and their third-party administrators, not just municipal employers and private sector firefighter employers. The bill also requires the Department of Labor and Industries to adopt rules to further define the duty of good faith and fair dealing, and to investigate and penalize violations. The bill applies to all claims regardless of the date of injury and takes effect on July 1, 2024.
