This bill modifies the earliest possible start date of the school calendar for school districts and accredited nonpublic schools. Current law requires the school calendar to begin no sooner than August 23, but this bill changes that to begin no sooner than the first Tuesday following the final day of the Iowa State Fair. The bill maintains the requirement that the school calendar must begin no later than the first Monday in December and include at least 180 days or 1,080 hours of instruction, with some exceptions.
