AN ACT To amend Part 3 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to health, so as to require automated external defibrillators in all schools; to provide for definitions; to provide for the establishment of emergency action plans to address a person in cardiac arrest; to provide for internal response teams; to provide for practice drills; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill requires all public schools in Georgia to have at least one functional automated external defibrillator (AED) on-site and easily accessible during all school hours and school-related functions. It also establishes requirements for schools, such as ensuring AED users receive proper training, notifying emergency medical services of the AED's location, maintaining and testing the AED, and involving a licensed physician in the AED program. The bill requires schools to create emergency action plans for responding to cardiac emergencies, conduct practice drills, and establish internal response teams to oversee emergency responses. The Department of Education is expected to provide funding to local school systems to assist with the purchase of AEDs.
