This bill prohibits healthcare providers in Washington state from prescribing puberty-blocking medications, cross-sex hormones, or performing gender transition surgeries on minors (individuals under the age of 18). The bill defines "gender" as the psychological, behavioral, social, and cultural aspects of being male or female, and "sex" as the biological indication of male and female without regard to an individual's psychological, chosen, or subjective experience of gender. The bill does provide exceptions for treatments related to certain medically verifiable disorders of sexual development or to taper a minor off of any puberty-blocking medications or other hormones.
