AI Summary
This bill, known as the "Safe Playing Fields Act," aims to restrict the use of lawn care pesticides, which are defined as any pesticide intended for use on lawns, gardens, turf, or ornamental plants (excluding low-impact pesticides), at child care centers and certain schools to protect children's health. Specifically, it prohibits the application of these pesticides at child care centers and schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade, with an exception for emergencies posing an immediate threat to human health, as determined by the respective facility's officials and potentially a local health officer. For child care centers, the bill also mandates a seven-hour waiting period before children can access treated areas and requires the Commissioner of Environmental Protection, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, to establish regulations for pesticide application, record-keeping, and notification procedures to further mitigate health risks.
