This bill authorizes the creation of special license plates for registered nurses in New Jersey, allowing them to display the caduceus symbol and the words "Registered Nurse" on their vehicle plates in addition to standard registration information. To obtain these plates, nurses must apply to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), headed by the Chief Administrator, and pay a one-time application fee of $50, which is separate from regular vehicle registration fees. The bill also removes a previously proposed annual fee for these plates. The MVC will select the design and color of the plates and will publicize their availability on its website. The cost of producing and issuing these plates will be offset by a designated State funding source, and the Director of the Division of Budget and Accounting is responsible for specifying this funding. The program will only begin once this funding is secured, and the plates will become available 13 months after that condition is met, with provisions for discontinuing the program if the cost of the plates exceeds the application fee for two consecutive years.
