The designation, which will be the international symbol for deafness or a numerical code, will only be visible to law enforcement officers when they access the vehicle's license plate information through the MVC's online system. The purpose of this designation is to alert law enforcement that the vehicle's registered owner is deaf or hard of hearing, potentially helping to facilitate more effective communication during traffic stops or other interactions. The bill will take effect 180 days after enactment and will apply to new and renewed vehicle registrations from that date forward. By providing this optional designation, the bill aims to help individuals with hearing impairments communicate their condition to law enforcement in a discreet and standardized manner.
