This joint resolution designates the last week of April each year as "Reentry Week" in New Jersey, with the purpose of raising public awareness about the challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals and encouraging organizations and state agencies to support their successful reintegration into society. The resolution acknowledges that most individuals currently in state and county correctional facilities will eventually return to their communities and face significant obstacles such as finding employment, housing, healthcare, addiction and mental health treatment, transportation, and family reunification. It highlights the work of the New Jersey Reentry Services Commission (RSC) and the Commission on Reentry Services for Women (CRSW), which have released reports offering recommendations to improve reentry outcomes. The resolution calls upon the Governor to issue an annual proclamation encouraging public officials and citizens to observe Reentry Week through appropriate activities and programs, with the ultimate goal of supporting formerly incarcerated individuals in pursuing healthy and productive lives after their release.
