Bill Summary

This bill requires long-term care facilities to offer residents the opportunity to update emergency contact information. Under the bill, consistent with federal and State privacy laws, a long-term care facility is to meet, at a minimum, once annually with each resident and the resident's family to discuss and review the emergency contact information for the resident on file with the long-term care facility. Moreover, in addition to the meeting required with the resident's family, a long-term care facility is to offer each resident the opportunity to update the resident's emergency contact information with the long-term care facility, at a minimum, twice annually. Under the bill, emergency contact information is to include a primary and a secondary contact Finally, the bill provides that its provisions are not to be construed to prohibit a long-term care facility from sharing information regarding a resident to an individual not on file as an emergency contact.
