This bill establishes new requirements for healthcare providers in New Jersey regarding endometriosis evaluation for pregnant individuals and those who have recently given birth, specifically focusing on those diagnosed with preeclampsia. Under this legislation, obstetric care providers will be required to provide patients with information about endometriosis, its warning signs, and symptoms, developed by the New Jersey Department of Health. Providers must inform patients about the benefits of an endometriosis evaluation if they have been diagnosed with preeclampsia and subsequently show related symptoms. The bill requires providers to either evaluate patients for endometriosis or refer them to a qualified provider for such an evaluation, unless the patient provides written refusal. The Commissioner of Health, in consultation with the Endometriosis Foundation of America, will develop educational materials about endometriosis for these patients. If a patient receives a positive endometriosis diagnosis, the healthcare provider must discuss the results and develop a treatment plan to minimize the patient's risk. The Board of Medical Examiners will be responsible for adopting rules and regulations to implement these requirements, and the law will take effect 180 days after its enactment.
