This bill prohibits a person convicted of failing to report the loss or theft of a firearm from purchasing a handgun for a period of 180 days from the date of conviction. Under current law, the legal owner of a firearm is required to report to law enforcement authorities the loss or theft of that firearm within 36 hours of discovering the loss or theft.
