This bill amends the Illinois Pension Code to adopt the Retirement Systems Reciprocal Act (Article 20) as part of the Downstate Police, Downstate Firefighter, Chicago Police, and Chicago Firefighter Articles. This change applies only to individuals who, on or after the effective date of the amendatory act, are entitled to begin receiving a retirement annuity or survivor's annuity under those articles or through a participating system under the Reciprocal Act and elect to proceed under the Reciprocal Act. The Reciprocal Act allows for the coordination of benefits between different public pension systems in Illinois.
