This bill creates a nonrefundable income tax credit for eligible family caregivers for taxable years 2024 through 2028. The credit is worth 50% of eligible expenditures incurred by the caregiver, up to $1,000 per year. To qualify, the caregiver must not receive any compensation or reimbursement for the expenses and have a federal adjusted gross income of no more than $100,000 for an individual or $200,000 for married couples. Eligible expenditures include costs related to home modifications, assistive equipment, hiring home care aides, and other caregiving-related expenses. The tax commissioner will develop guidelines for claiming the credit, which will be exempt from the Administrative Process Act.
