This bill requires that school board members in New Jersey complete a new, 12-hour financial training program within their first year of service, covering topics such as school district financial roles and responsibilities, contracting procedures, revenue sources, budget processes, fiscal integrity, monitoring fiscal fitness, collective bargaining, and identifying fraud, waste, and abuse. This financial training is in addition to existing training requirements and will be developed by the New Jersey School Boards Association in consultation with other educational organizations and the Department of Education. The bill also mandates that the New Jersey School Boards Association annually report to school board presidents any members who have not completed their required training.
