This bill requires the State Board of Education to implement trauma-informed practices in schools from kindergarten through grade 12 in West Virginia starting July 1, 2024. The bill defines "trauma-informed practices" to include evidence-based professional development for teachers, school leaders, and other staff on how traumatic experiences can impact students, disciplinary procedures that avoid harsh and punitive practices, and school-wide activities to promote a culture of acceptance and support for students' social-emotional well-being. The State Board is authorized to promulgate rules, including emergency rules if necessary, to implement these trauma-informed practices in schools.
