This bill establishes the office of inspector general as an independent administrative agency charged with the responsibility to investigate, detect, and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in the expenditure of public funds, whether federal, state, or local, and relating to any and all state programs and operations as well as the procurement of any supplies, services, or construction. The inspector general is appointed for a five-year term and can be removed for cause. The inspector general can appoint employees, conduct investigations and audits, and issue subpoenas. The office is required to submit annual reports summarizing its activities.
