This bill amends the provisions related to the Alaska Board of Parole. It increases the membership of the board from 5 to 7 members, specifies the required qualifications for the new members (including a licensed medical professional, a crime victim or advocate, an addiction recovery expert, a formerly incarcerated individual, and a member of a federally recognized Alaska tribe), and limits the number of current or former correctional facility employees on the board. The bill also imposes term limits on board members and includes transition provisions to allow current members to complete their terms. The bill takes effect on January 1, 2025.
