This bill allows a petitioner to request a stay of certain civil actions or proceedings, such as actions for failure to pay rent, foreclosure actions, and actions against the property of an alleged disabled person, upon the filing of a petition for guardianship of the property of the alleged disabled person. The stay may remain in effect until a temporary or permanent guardian of the property is appointed or the petition is denied. The bill also requires the temporary or permanent guardian of the property to be served for effectuating service of process on the alleged disabled person for any action stayed under this law. Additionally, the bill applies only prospectively and does not affect any petition for guardianship filed before the effective date of the Act.
