This bill requires that each approved or accredited public, private, denominational, or parochial high school in Nebraska have an automated external defibrillator (AED) on school property and in close proximity to each school athletic venue, starting in the 2024-25 school year. Schools must ensure the AED is tested and maintained, notify emergency medical service providers about the AED, and ensure coaches and other appropriate personnel receive AED use training. Additionally, each high school must establish an athletics emergency action plan, in consultation with local emergency medical service providers, to respond to serious or life-threatening injuries for students participating in sports or other athletic activities. The plan must include specific information such as activity locations, responsible personnel, available equipment, and emergency response procedures. The plan must be distributed to relevant staff, reviewed annually, and rehearsed at least annually.
