This bill prohibits foreign principals, which include foreign governments, foreign political parties, and certain foreign individuals and organizations, from making contributions, expenditures, or independent expenditures in support of or opposition to the election of any candidate for state or local office, any state or local ballot measure, or any related political action committee or campaign advertising. The bill also prohibits candidates, political action committees, and committees for or against ballot measures from accepting such contributions from foreign principals. Violations would result in the forfeiture of the contributions to the state Ethics Commission. The bill would become effective on November 1, 2024.
