This bill establishes the Aerospace and Aeronautics Development Program within the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism. The program will oversee, supervise, and direct the planning, evaluation, and coordination of space-related activities in Hawaii, and identify and promote opportunities for expanding and diversifying aerospace-related industries in the state. The director of the program will have expertise in space-related activities and development, and will be responsible for various duties, such as initiating discussions for private and international involvement, serving as a catalyst in forging partnerships, and promoting innovative education and workforce development programs. The program will also serve as a central point of contact for inquiries about the state's aerospace-related interests and activities, and will not authorize or facilitate the launching of vehicles carrying weapons of destruction, nuclear waste, or radioactive materials. The bill will take effect on January 1, 2060.
