This bill amends existing New Jersey law concerning liquor licenses to allow certain individuals with past criminal convictions to be employed by liquor licensees without requiring special permits or the director's approval. Specifically, it permits a person convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude to be employed by a Class C licensee, which refers to retail liquor licenses, unless the conviction was for a sex offense as defined in N.J.S.2C:7-2 or a crime involving moral turpitude committed while working on the licensed premises. However, even with these exceptions, the individual's responsibilities cannot involve serving, selling, or soliciting sales of alcoholic beverages, participating in the mixing or preparation of alcoholic beverages, providing private security or admission monitoring, or offering management or professional services. This change aims to provide more employment opportunities for ex-offenders while maintaining public safety and regulatory oversight.
