This bill amends Pennsylvania's oil and gas regulations to increase the minimum distance between unconventional gas wells and buildings, water wells, surface water, and other water supply sources. Specifically, it increases the minimum distance for unconventional gas wells from 500 feet to 2,500 feet for buildings and water wells, and from 1,000 feet to 2,500 feet for water supply sources. Additionally, it prohibits drilling new wells within 5,000 feet of schools or hospitals. The bill provides a process for well operators to obtain variances from these distance requirements in certain circumstances.
