This bill prohibits public bodies in New Mexico from entering into or renewing any agreements to detain individuals for federal civil immigration violations. It requires public bodies to terminate any existing agreements used to detain individuals for federal civil immigration violations by May 15, 2024. The bill also prohibits public bodies from using public resources, such as funds or assets, to facilitate the establishment or operation of facilities that detain individuals for federal civil immigration violations. However, public bodies may continue to receive and disburse payments related to terminating such agreements during the transition period.
