This bill establishes the Commission to Advance Lithium-Ion Battery Safety in Maryland. The Commission is tasked with studying and making recommendations regarding best practices, standards, and guidelines to prevent, detect, and suppress lithium-ion battery fires in consumer, transportation, and utility applications, as well as at recycling facilities. The Commission will also examine the viability of extended producer responsibility for lithium-ion batteries and provide training, education, and information to the public and first responders on lithium-ion battery safety. The Commission is required to submit an interim progress report by December 1, 2024, and a final report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly by December 1, 2025.
