This bill creates a tax exemption for portions of property that provide tree canopy cover in counties whose local governing bodies elect to create the exemption. The bill defines "tree canopy" and outlines the process for applying for and administering the exemption, including the responsibilities of the implementing agency (county planning commission, assessor of property, or county board of equalization) and the State Board of Equalization. The exemption is limited to a maximum of 5 acres per property and must be recertified every 7 years. The bill applies only in counties that choose to adopt the provisions through a two-thirds majority vote of the county governing body.
