This bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 40, to require the clerk of every court having jurisdiction of criminal offenses to include a $12.50 charge in every cost bill. The funds collected must be remitted to the county government or, in counties that are part of a multiple county judicial district, to the office of the executive director of the district attorneys general conference. The funds are to be used at the sole discretion of the district attorney general for providing support services to promote public safety. The bill also allows counties to supplement the funds of the district attorney general system to promote public safety, and the funds collected under this bill are supplemental to any other funds received by the district attorney general. The bill does not apply to nonmoving traffic violations, and the $12.50 charge does not have priority over the collection of restitution or the criminal injuries compensation fund.
