This bill proposes to make it reckless driving to operate a vehicle at speeds in excess of 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. The bill would amend the existing reckless driving law in West Virginia to include this new provision. If a driver is found guilty of reckless driving under the proposed law, they could face imprisonment of up to 90 days and/or a fine of up to $500 for a first offense, and up to 6 months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $1,000 for a second or subsequent offense. Additionally, if the reckless driving proximately causes serious bodily injury to another person, the driver could face up to 6 months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
