This bill would clarify that the power unit of a near-zero emission or zero-emission vehicle is authorized to exceed the allowable gross weight limits by up to a maximum of 2,000 pounds. It would also clarify that the maximum gross vehicle weight for a near-zero-emission vehicle or a zero-emission vehicle is 82,000 pounds. The bill would not exempt these vehicles from other weight limits prescribed in the Vehicle Code or tire weight limits. The terms "near-zero-emission vehicle" and "zero-emission vehicle" have the same meanings as defined in the Health and Safety Code, and this bill applies only to the extent expressly authorized by federal law.
