This bill creates a new license plate for certain retired firefighters in South Dakota and clarifies provisions regarding special firefighter license plates. The plate or decal must be designed by the fire marshal and approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Additionally, the bill amends existing law to require a fee of $10 for the initial issuance of the special firefighter and retired firefighter license plates, with the fee going to the license plate special revenue fund. The bill also clarifies that firefighters who are discharged or retire with less than 10 years of service must surrender their special plates and obtain regular plates. This bill will take effect on March 1, 2025.
