This bill prohibits health carriers, health benefit plans, or utilization review organizations from using step therapy protocols to restrict, delay, or deny coverage for a prescription drug or drug regimen for the treatment of cancer and associated conditions if certain criteria are met, such as the prescribed drug or regimen being consistent with best practices, supported by evidence-based medical literature, or having FDA approval. The bill amends various sections of the Tennessee Code Annotated and takes effect on July 1, 2024, applying to health insurance or health plans entered into, issued, delivered, amended, or renewed on or after that date.
