This bill creates new crimes of abuse and neglect of an adult with a disability in the first, second, and third degree, as well as crimes of financial exploitation of an adult with a disability in the first, second, and third degree. The bill defines key terms such as "adult with a disability," "caregiver," "financial exploitation," and "undue influence." It also provides immunity from civil liability for those reporting or investigating abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation, and specifies that the new crimes can be prosecuted in any county where the crime took place. The bill becomes effective on October 1, 2024.
