This bill prohibits the importation, sale, and distribution of cell-cultured food products in Tennessee. Cell-cultured food products are defined as food products intended for human consumption that are produced without slaughter by growing cells harvested from animals or seafood in a controlled environment. The bill imposes a fine of $1 million for violating this prohibition and allows the commissioner to revoke the permit of a food establishment if the establishment or its employees violate the prohibition. The bill also provides for forfeiture of any cell-cultured food products imported, sold, or distributed in violation of the law. The bill directs the Department of Agriculture to promulgate rules to implement the act, which takes effect on July 1, 2024.
