This bill, known as the "Medical Ethics Defense Act," allows medical practitioners, healthcare institutions, and healthcare payers in Tennessee to refuse to participate in or pay for medical procedures or services that violate their ethical, moral, or religious beliefs, as long as this does not impair their contractual obligations. The bill also provides whistleblower protections for medical practitioners who disclose information about violations of the law or ethical guidelines, and it allows for civil lawsuits against those who discriminate against individuals or entities for exercising their rights under the act.
