This bill amends Section 13A-10-9 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to revise the penalties for falsely reporting crimes to local, state, or federal law enforcement authorities. The bill makes false reporting a Class A misdemeanor, unless the false report alleges imminent danger to a person or the public, in which case the penalty is a Class C felony. Additionally, the bill requires a person convicted of false reporting to pay restitution for the expenses incurred by law enforcement or other governmental agencies responding to the incident, including the costs of police, firefighting, and emergency medical services.
