This bill prohibits a qualified provider from performing or inducing an abortion on a pregnant woman within a certain period of time (either 24 or 2 hours, depending on the woman's distance from the facility) after the woman receives a transabdominal ultrasound. The bill establishes requirements for the performance of the transabdominal ultrasound, including that the medical professional performing it must be trained in sonography, determine the gestational age of the fetus, and offer the woman the option to view the ultrasound image, receive a printed copy, and hear the fetal heartbeat. The woman is not required to accept anything offered during the ultrasound. The bill also requires the facility to maintain a printed copy of the ultrasound image for a certain period of time, and subjects a qualified provider who violates the bill's provisions to a penalty of up to $2,500.
