This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to waive the standard registration fee for passenger motor vehicles and light trucks (weighing not more than 8,000 pounds) for any veteran who holds proof from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs of a service-connected disability. The existing law already provides a 50% reduction in the registration fee for active duty military personnel stationed outside the U.S. for at least 90 days during the preceding year, and allows military members stationed abroad for at least 6 months to receive credit for the unused portion of their registration when they renew it.
