Bill Summary

This act would extend injured-on-duty (IOD) benefits to police officers and firefighters that suffer from diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorders, resulting from actions in the course of their employment or from the rendering of emergency assistance at any occurrence involving the protection or the rescue of human life while off duty except under certain conditions. This act would also provide that municipal police officers and firefighters that are unable to perform their duties by reason of post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI)/(PTSD) would be entitled to receive an accidental disability retirement allowance as well as IOD benefits. This act would take effect upon passage.
