This bill establishes increased penalties for the abuse or neglect of animals that result in the death or euthanasia of the animal. Specifically, it increases the maximum sentence to 3 years imprisonment and a fine up to $5,000. Additionally, the court is authorized to prohibit a defendant convicted of animal abuse or neglect from owning, possessing, or residing with an animal for a period determined by the court. The bill also maintains the existing penalties of up to 90 days imprisonment and a $1,000 fine for animal abuse or neglect that does not result in the death or euthanasia of the animal.
