This bill amends existing Arizona law to make several changes related to the state's school safety program. It requires school districts and charter schools that receive funding through the school safety program to: 1) Develop emergency response plans for each school site in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies, using minimum standards developed by the Department of Education and the Division of Emergency Management. 2) Annually contract with an approved school safety assessment provider to conduct a safety assessment of each school site, including an evaluation of physical security and the emergency response plan. The bill also directs the Department of Education to compile a list of approved school safety assessment providers, and to randomly select a sample of participating school districts and charter schools every three years to conduct its own school safety assessments and provide the results to the schools. Additionally, the bill exempts school building blueprints and floor plans from being considered public records.
