This bill requires the California Energy Commission to evaluate opportunities to increase electrification of industrial heat processes by July 1, 2026, in order to help the state meet its industrial emissions reduction goals. The bill also requires the California Air Resources Board to assess the potential for the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industrial facilities' heat application equipment and processes as part of its next update to the state's climate action plan, occurring on or after January 1, 2025. The assessment must consider strategies to reduce emissions from industrial heating in new and existing facilities, opportunities and challenges associated with industrial electrification and high-heat processes, and the potential for expanding businesses that manufacture zero-emission industrial technologies. The Air Resources Board is required to incorporate the Energy Commission's evaluation into its assessment and identify potential emission reductions associated with the Commission's recommendations.
