This bill adds a new section to existing Idaho law to provide compensation for livestock owners who experience depredation of their livestock by grizzly bears and wolves. The Office of Species Conservation, in consultation with the Department of Fish and Game and the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, is authorized to carry out the compensation program, which is funded by an annual legislative appropriation of $225,000 to the newly established Depredation of Livestock and Prevention Fund. The bill sets out the parameters for validating claims, calculating compensation based on fair market value, and distributing the funds on a pro-rata basis if the appropriated amount is insufficient to cover all claims. The bill also provides that the fund shall not exceed $400,000 and that any remaining funds after claims are paid will be carried over to the next year.
