This bill amends the Code of Alabama to authorize the Department of Insurance to issue motor vehicle liability insurance policies through the Alabama Automobile Insurance Plan, a reasonable plan approved by the Commissioner of Insurance for the equitable apportionment of costs among insurance companies for applicants unable to procure such policies through ordinary methods. The bill waives liability for the Department, its officers and employees, and the state in the administration of the plan, and establishes a governing committee to oversee the plan's implementation. The bill also requires the governing committee to file an annual audited financial report with the Commissioner and grants the Commissioner authority to establish regulations to implement the purposes of this section. The bill will become effective on October 1, 2024.
